The Big Island is truly unique amongst all the islands in the Hawaiian archipelago. To avoid confusion with the name of the entire state, the island of Hawaii is called “Hawaii's Big Island.” It is larger than all of the other Hawaiian Islands combined and is incredibly varied in its topography. For example, 11 of the world's 13 climactic zones are contained within its shores.
With 18 world-class courses, the Big Island is known as the state's golf capital. Two of the best are on the Farirmont Orchid's grounds, including the famed Francis I'i Brown Golf Courses, home to the Senior Skins Games for nearly a decade. Besides hitting your ball into a patch of lava (local rules dictate you may play as a lateral hazard), the biggest risk you'll have to overcome is losing your focus due to Pele's breathtaking scenery.
